Baby Girl, Desert Camping, Golfing

Here it goes! I haven't REALLY written ANYTHING substantial in a long time, but I am going to give this a try.

Welcome to my blog - Stoke Sesh. I am starting this blog to document all of the awesome things that are happening in my life AND to share all of these things with you, my closest family and friends. I know that we may not always be close in proximity to each other, but I do hold each of you near and dear to my heart, and I think of you more often than you probably know <3

"Compound" life
James and I flew into Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Friday, August 29, 2014 to live and work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the American International School - Riyadh. James is teaching International Baccalaureate high school math, and I am teaching International Baccalaureate high school chemistry.

At the Doha, Qatar airport after many hours of travel on our way to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

An interesting thing about where we live is that we live on a western compound, which happens to be on the same compound where our school is located. We ride our bikes to and from work everyday. And it's about a 5-minute bike ride - best commute ever!

Our bikes and yes, James rides a trike!

The compound also has a lot of fun amenities like 2 big pools, a bowling alley, a grocery store, restaurants, etc. - all of this in walking distance from our villa. Our colleagues and neighbors are people from all over the world and have been so welcoming since we arrived, and we couldn't be more grateful for that.

The best news EVER
One of our top priorities upon arrival was to find a baby doctor. Fortunately for us, another couple at our work (and they happen to live a few doors down) is also expecting their first baby 2 weeks after us, and they gave us a great recommendation for a doctor. After our first appointment and ultrasound on September 20, James and I found out that we are having a baby girl!!! She is expected to arrive on February 2, 2015. So stoked! As of today, I am 25 weeks and 5 days pregnant - less than 15 weeks to go!

6 months pregnant!

Some Saudi fun
In the beginning of October, James and I went on our first desert camping trip here in Saudi Arabia. It was hotter than hell, and one of our cars got stuck in the sand on the way there, but it was a ton of fun!

The desert camping crew

Just last weekend, we actually found a golf course with a driving range (yes, in the middle of the desert!). James and I both hit a bucket of balls as gazelles were running across the driving range. We weren't sure what they were at first, but that sure was a cool sight to see!

We have been doing a lot of "settling in" with our new home and new school. There is a lot of new stuff that we have to figure out, but we are really enjoying the journey.

In November, we have a trip planned to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (a neighboring country of Saudi Arabia to the southeast). We will be meeting up with some friends from San Diego as they compete in an international competition, the World Flowboarding Championship. More on that next month!

Stay stoked.
